Gingival cyst of adult

Gingival cyst of adult (from Cawson’s Essentials of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine, 9th Edition)

Gingival cysts in adults are rare and present after the age of approximately 40 years, most often in the lower canine and premolar region. Clinically, they form dome-shaped swell- ings less than 1 cm in diameter and sometimes erode the underlying bone by pressure (Fig. 10.46). They are lined by very thin, flat, stratified squamous epithelium and may contain fluid or layers of keratin, and sometimes the epithelium forms plaques similar to those in lateral perio- dontal cysts. They do not recur on excision.
